Nov 24, 2007 I've had belt drives in the past (an XLH1200 and Hyosung 650) The Harley was a 14mm pitch belt and the Hyo was an 11mm belt I believe the Scootworks is an 8mm belt and if so, would explain some their problems Most 8mm belts are used for short loop primary drives, not for the final transmission of power to the rear wheel.

2021-4-4 A lot of the negative comments on the belt drive that I have read had to do with the front sprocket wearing erratically. Some thought it had to do with the width of the sprocket and how it was not balanced out or some sort of thing like that. There is a lot of reading out there on the Drifter and VN 800's being modified with the belt drive.

2013-12-13 I am familiar with the Scootworks kit for the Marauder. When installed correctly, the belt should last 17-20,000 miles. Checking the tension is easy and should be done every now and again, but adjustments are rare. You will need to adjust the tension after the first 500-600 miles, and then whenever you remove the rear wheel for anything.

2010-7-29 I would never trust a belt drive on a 'Busa. I don't think belt drives are able to transmit that much torque/power. Heck, I wouldn't trust every chain except a few. Heck, even a good chain can go bad on a 'Busa. Few years back, during a track day I witnessed a belt on the Buell broke and was laying there on the track like a black snake.

Sell it and get a 750 Honda Shadow made from 98-03, or Kaw 800 from 96-05, both those bikes came with chain drive, you can get different sprockets for them to run a bit faster down the highway, but your shaft drive bike will always be shaft drive.

2011-5-23 There is a company called Scootworks working on a belt drive conversion for the Bandit and I was seriously looking into it. At last contact it was not ready for market. Contact them to find out. Suzuki would be wise to look into a belt version of the Bandit. Quiet and next to no maintenance is the type of thing that makes a touring rider smile.
